Futurum’s IT Decision-Maker Report Finds That These SaaS Vendors, Along With Salesforce, Have Leveraged Their Capabilities, Scalability, Reliability, and Large Partner Ecosystems to Dominate the Market

The human resources software market is currently dominated by four main vendors, reflecting the challenges faced by upstarts that are seeking to displace incumbents. Research with 480 IT decision makers conducted in November 2024 by Futurum Research found that enterprise organizations have largely chosen to work with large SaaS software vendors, naming Microsoft, SAP, Workday, and Oracle as the top four vendors currently supplying their organization with enterprise human resources applications and platforms.

Indeed, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Human Resources, SAP SuccessFactors, Workday, and Oracle HCM each were named by at least 22% of respondents as being deployed within their enterprise. All of these vendors have been actively supplying HR software to the market for well more than a decade, which helps to engender trust and confidence in the vendor’s ability to provide applications that deliver on their promised benefits while adhering to strict data privacy and governance requirements. They also feature strong integration with enterprise applications and systems, ensuring that data from other departments can be easily accessed and leveraged within the HR application.

Keith Kirkpatrick, Research Director, Enterprise Applications at Futurum, said, “Enterprise customers have realized that basing purchasing decisions solely on the presence of specific capabilities and features is only part of a comprehensive buying strategy. Other factors, such as ease of integration, scalability, reliability, and robust security controls, are as or more important determinants of whether a particular vendor’s offering will be a good fit within the organization’s technology stack.”

Meanwhile, more than 13% of respondents cited Microsoft Dynamics 365 Human Resources, Salesforce, SAP SuccessFactors, and Oracle HCM as being under consideration for a future purchase.

“Despite a small sample size, it’s interesting to note that Salesforce was named by 19.4% of respondents as being under consideration for purchase,” Kirkpatrick said. “Salesforce checks many of the same boxes as the other leading vendors, including a large ecosystem, scalability and reliability, and, most notably, a robust agentic framework designed to enhance the efficiency, productivity, and accessibility of HR functions for users.”
